PayPal is cutting 164 jobs at its Irish operation, equivalent to almost 12% of its 1,380-strong full-time Irish workforce. The Department of Enterprise confirmed it received a collective redundancy notification from PayPal Europe Services Ltd on 28 August 2026. Staff were told of the cuts on 31 August, when 29 senior staff, three team leaders and one manager were informed their roles were being made redundant; the company later confirmed a further 131 roles across other departments would also go.

Irish jobs cut — 11.9% of PayPal's Irish workforce
The company said the changes are part of a previously announced multi-year transformation intended to simplify its global operations, remove duplication and put in place clearer reporting lines. PayPal has not issued a public statement giving the number; the figure of 164 was confirmed to Sinn Féin TD Ruairí Ó Murchú by a company spokesperson.
One team of around 120 staff, previously based in PayPal's former Dundalk office and now working remotely, was among the first to be told, in a short meeting with no further detail given on numbers or reasoning. Cuts are proposed across a range of departments and all levels of the business, from front-line staff to senior management.
Redundancies are expected to take place between 7 and 21 October 2026, following a period of consultation with employee representatives. This is a Republic of Ireland process governed by Irish, not UK, employment law — PayPal employs staff across both Dublin and remote roles nationwide in Ireland; no UK-based roles have been named as affected.
