British horror game developer Supermassive Games, the studio behind Until Dawn, The Quarry and the Dark Pictures anthology, has announced plans to lay off up to 75 staff. The company said the move is "a necessary step to help ensure the sustainability of the company," adding that its priority would be to support everyone affected through the process.

The announcement follows the May 2026 launch of Directive 8020, the latest instalment in the Dark Pictures saga, and marks the second round of layoffs the studio has made during the Directive 8020 development cycle, after 36 roles were cut alongside a delay to the game's release. Supermassive's CEO also stepped down earlier this year.
The studio does not currently have any newly announced titles, though further instalments in the Dark Pictures series are expected to follow, with Directive 8020 seen as the start of a new season of the horror anthology.
